This weeks strip is a little nod to Frank Miller. For those two of you not in the know, he is the genius who created the Sin City series; a non-stop visual roller coaster ride that crossed the no nonsense, hard-boiled world of Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer with the classically terrifying black and white Universal monster movies of the 1930’s.
Reading his original Sin City series in Trade Paperback for the first time was a revelation to me. Drawn in stark black and white, his innovative use of negative space made for a unique and visceral experience and showed me the potential and power that was possible within the genre of “comicbooks”. His work on the Sin City books and other projects is Graphic Storytelling in the truest sense of the word.
I hope you enjoy this weeks tribute to one of the true Masters of Comicbook Art. See you right here next week – Jim
