Oddly Aroused is Oddly Delayed this week
Oddly Aroused will be a little late this week, everyone…what with having a busy weekend and ongoing computer issues, its just been too much of a challenge to get the thing done. Please check back for the continuation and I apologize for any inconvenience. Take care for now! – Jim
Hey Jim, have you ever thought of organizing these art pieces into a gallery here on the site? It would make it alot easier for newcomers down the road to find them, as opposed to trawling through the blog archives.
Hi baltahzar, That is definitely on my to do list for the site. I need to get a proper archive set up as well and I promise that I will be setting up a gallery for drawings and fan art. Webdesign is a little like a foreign language to me and I struggle with setting things up on here. I know that the more posts and strips I put on here, the more difficult it will be to navigate, so I will get started on that very soon.
Very nice sketch. Sorry it took me so long to drop in on it. I missed it at first because I forgot to scroll down, then took a few more days to remember to com back & comment. As you probably remember from other comments I’ve left at Legend of Bill, I do really enjoy some nice black & white / gray scale artwork. Really gives that wonderful comic book feel. I used to do a lot of black & white photography, too, so I developed quite a taste and eye for it. Also did a bit of sepia work, which is fun to play with … *hinthint* 😉
One suggestion for a well-done Archive is:

Rich Morris is nearly finished completely re-tagging and archiving his entire site, almost 3000 comics. He’s been working on it for over half a year now.
Each comic has a number, a name, and is tagged with every character in it or referenced in it so you can click on any character name and get a listing of every comic, in order, that they appear in.
There are a couple of other webcomics that have a better-than-usual Archive as far as usability & navigation goes. I’ll drop a few more suggestion on you as I re-check a few so you have some examples to look at for ideas. You’re in a good position to Do It Right since you’re already thinking about it so close to the beginning of your comic. One thing you’re doing right from the beginning is tagging each installment pretty thoroughly, even your blog & art posts. That’s one of the more tedious things to retro-fit later on.
Oh, yeah. Byron Wilkins also did a fairly decent job at 1977:

It would probably be a little bit better if segmented into story arcs with their own titles. But, that also doesn’t work perfectly if you throw in one- and two-off gag strips fairly often. Rich Morris solves that problem by posting a series of gag strips as a break between story arcs.
I’d lost track of Byron for a while. He retired the strip a year or more ago, and now I see he’s back. Again. I think this is the second time he resurrected the strip …. I’ve got to go check in and harass him a bit now. 😉 😆
I don’t know if anyone noticed yesterday and today, but I lost all my comics except the main page because I was messing around in the admin site for Oddly Aroused trying to create an archive for the comics.
Unfortunately, it’s not just a matter of clicking a button or two to create an archive. I was lucky enough to be able to get the site back to normal without asking help from a WordPress tech guy, but it was scary there for a day and a half. I really have no idea what I’m doing on here when it comes to stuff like creating an archive or adding a link for an art gallery. It’s something that needs doing before the site gets too big. I want to stay on top of those things and get it organized before it gets to such a point where it would be such a huge, comprehensive endeavor that it wouldn’t be worth the effort. Of course, I’ll google it and see if I can get it figured out that way. Thanks for the links…it IS good to see Byron Wilkins back working on his comic . It’s quite a cool little community we have as webcomic creators!
