This weeks episode of Survivorman…I mean Oddly Aroused continues. As the world changes and devolves around him, Quirk carries on! Imagine witnessing the world change around you in an ever-changing and evolving tapestry; observing and being part of all that’s significant and insignificant throughout earths history. Would it drive a person mad? Would it give them insight into things that a mere mortal couldn’t possibly understand?
Will the answer be revealed next week? I guess you’ll have to check back then 😉 Take care for now!
Nice visual, great composition – the fire/moon/darkmountain flow is really, really good. My only criticism is your saber-tooth looks a little doglike. Saber-toothed rotweiler, maybe?
Thanks pachristian! Animals aren’t my forte and that one gave me a little trouble. I noticed afterwards that Sabertooths don’t have long tails like a cat, their tails are very short. My bad for not using the correct reference.
What pachristian said about the composition. Really neat use of the colors here!
Thanks, Khelatar! I always appreciate your comments and observations.
Well, I think it depended on the species of saber-tooth. Smilodon had a bobtail, but Hoplophoneus and Thylacosmilus had long ones. But yeah, the ones that existed in the human era mostly had short tails. But hey – we’ve only got a tiny fraction of the species that were running around in the fossil record, so who knows?
I should add, I really like the Quirk drawing here. A concern might be him taking over the strip. Agnes and Trudy dominate the comedy, and Quirk now seems to dominate the drama. This is not a bad thing, if that’s where you want the strip to go. But it’s something to keep in mind. “Thimble Theater” was totally changed by introducing Popeye, and the long-running adventure strip “Captain Easy” was originally a comedy strip about “Wash Tubs” which was totally changed by introducing the itinerate soldier of fortune. (But you knew all of this).
… See, I totally take advantage of your good nature to lecture you about paleontology and comic-strip history…
Not at all, pachristian, I always appreciate any comments and impressions that you throw my way. As for Quirk taking over the strip, once this story gets to it’s end, there will be lots of Agnes and Trudy once more.
Quirk isn’t meant to be the lead of this strip, but I believe that he’s strong enough to be the star of his own strip and that will happen soon. I just wanted to set up his backstory here to give everyone a taste. Consider him the “Fearless Fosdick” of the strip (or would Sonya Crimson be considered that?!) Thanks for your comments as always!
