Anyone who read comics from the 70’s to the 90’s would have been very familiar with a prolific artist by the name of Sal Buscema. His powerful and vibrant art could be found in a multitude of titles; The Avengers, Incredible Hulk, Conan, Rom, Fantastic Four, Spiderman, etc, etc and etc. He is the definition of a ‘comicbook artist’, a tried and true performer who handed in powerhouse storytelling each and every time. As a writer, I think I would have been very thankful to have an artist of Sal’s caliber illustrating my words. And if you were familiar with his work, you would have been very familiar with the Sal Buscema punch panel. You would have looked forward to seeing a solid roundhouse punch delivered by Spidey or the Hulk to some evil-doer and see the said villain go flying, limbs all akimbo in the signature and iconic Sal Buscema style. Panel 4 of this weeks strip is a very pale imitation, but gets the point across nicely I think. So please enjoy the story as we continue our brief foray into Sonya Crimson of Asurria’s world!
See you right here next week – Jim
