Revenge of the Geek Squad
I agree with Agnes sentiments; I think cosplayers are pretty cool people. As a matter of fact, most geeks are just awesome in general…and I’m speaking as a self-confessed geek myself. We just love all kinds of cool and kitschy stuff and we are accepting of just about everyone and their quirks. Whatever you want to categorize cosplaying as; whether it’s a sub-genre of geekiness or a wonderful category all it’s own, the people who practice it are smart, innovative, funny, creative and tolerant of everyone. Perhaps in her subtle way, young Agnes is trying to show Trudy that not all people are judgemental, intolerant and abusive and that somewhere there is a place where people don’t need to feel harassed or threatened because of the way they dress or wear their hair or because of the person they choose to love or the things they collect; and that somewhere they can feel safe and accepted with friends by their side.
Sorry for the lack of strip last week…I’ll try to make it up to you. I’m hoping to start getting more strips up throughout the week and I promise that I will work on getting an art gallery and archive set up in the near future.
Till next week, take care – Jim
Speaking of; before I’d even read the dialogue, I’d identified the cosplayers’ characters (not stated so that others can have a shot too). Oh and FWIW I didn’t even look at the hashtags until I was writing this comment, but now I know I was right.
Well, The Batman is pretty easy, but I guess you’d have to be a gamer to get Poison from Capcom’s Street Fighter.
You have t be a gamer, or at least into cosplay, to get Poison.
Gorgeous installment, Jim.
If you were to remove the dialogue balloons, you’ve got a wonderful little wallpaper for your Extras & Goodies section. * hinthint * It’s a wonderful little casual scene between the gals and easily stands alone without any dialogue, just a real easy-on-the-eyes slice of life moment.
The main content of the panel (without any of the white border) is approximately 880 x 660 pixels. If your original resolution is larger, it would scale to 1280 x 960 pixels and be pretty close to a standard 1280×1024 (5:4 ratio) monitor. That leaves 84 pixels (42 top & 42 bottom) for a border (something dark) for subtle copyright & authorship + website info.
Alternatively, it could also scale to 1440×1080 and be a reasonable fit for a 1920×1080 monitor (16:9 ratio). In this configuration, you get 480 pixels (240 right & 240 left) to come up with some sort of filler. Plain solid dark color or fill in with some other doodle/sketchwork plus station identification for which Bat Channel to tune your Internets to for more.
Sorry I didn’t get that specification in for the other wallpapers I had in mind to you yet … life been kickin’ me hard and taking my name down in some unsavory places. (I’ll take Surprise Root Canal and Restoration for $2500, Alex 🙁 ) Hopefully turned a corner this past week. We’ll see.
Thanks for keepin’ at it. Jim. Really enjoying the story unfolding and getting some in-depth on the characters. I figured you had to be at least on the peripheral of the cosplay scene, given the comic’s premise. If you can blog a bit on events you know about/ are able to attend, maybe even post a few pix on occasion ..? It would be very interesting content to me, and you might be able to draw in a lot of fans through that crowd.
Thank you, 3X!
My intention was to draw a sort of thematic tribute to the strip that I did for Legend of Bill way back in the day:
http://legendofbill.com/2013/05/04/springtime-for-sarah/
…as a tribute to spring. In my mind it’s not as successful as the Sarah strip, but it works.
I will definitely keep this in mind for when I finally get a Special Extras section and I will keep everyone here informed of any Convention goings on that I might be involved in.
Sorry to hear that you’ve been having a rough go of it, but I’m glad that you’re through the worst of it. Those little bumps in the road just seem to keep us away from better things…Take care for now!
Great drawing of the gals at our favorite coffee spot 😉 And, that link to Sarah at Springtime is one of my favorite strips. Me thinks you should do a similar one of Sonya at the Mountain Brow.
A hint of Destiny in this one.
