In an Age Undreamed of…

A little Sword and Sorcery love for all you Sonya Crimson fans! I make no apology for the nudity in this weeks strip. I can’t help but love those trashy, yet glorious covers from Sword and Sorcery novels and comics popular in the 70’s and 80’s with all those sultry nudes, exotic locales and clashing barbarians. My childhood was spent dreaming of ancient haunted cities, blood-soaked battlefields and fair damsels to be rescued. Not exactly PC in this day and age of social awareness and gender equality (which I am all for by the way), but there it is…a throwback to my misspent youth. I hope you enjoy Sonya’s foray into her rich imagination this week. See you right here next week – Jim
This made me 😀 : in fact I’ve has similar fantasies but without using an action figure as inspiration.
On the point about PC, the closest I come to PC in this respect is not asking actual women to pose topless except when I’m the artist (well photographer; I can’t draw, which I blame on bad teaching).
I’m all for equality. By all means, feel free to pick up a sword and join me in Glorious Battle against the forces of Evil. Just don’t tell me I can’t.
> gender equality
Well, Sonya’s beheading a female warrior right there, isn’t she?
Indeed she is, khelatar. I wanted to show a woman at the forefront of the battle with Sonya, equally as savage and adept at battle as the men. But gender is meaningless to the edge of Sonya Crimson’s blade!
DAawwwww…. Sonya’s got a girl crush! You can’t get more PC than that these days. 😉
And, hey, when we’re talkin’ about the likes of Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta … holy cow, dude. That’s classic art now. Nothing trashy about it. Which is my story, from which I will not budge. 😆
Perhaps trash was the wrong word to describe those classic covers by the likes of Frazetta and Vallejo. The covers they and others painted will go down in history as valuable pieces of art and the artists contributions to the rich fabric of Fantasy art and literature will be remembered and cherished for generations..
